Kiwi Ears Septet

The Kiwi Ears Septet packs seven drivers and four driver technologies into each earpiece, wrapped in an unusual open back IEM design. Roughly two years in development, it aims to combine musical engagement with the tonal accuracy of a studio tool.

Type and Technology

A 10mm composite diaphragm dynamic driver reaches down to 8Hz for subwoofer style bass, four balanced armatures cover the low mids through mid treble on two independent crossover networks, a Micro Planar Transducer extends the ultra treble to 30kHz, and a PZT piezoelectric driver adds upper register texture. A five way crossover and a three bore nozzle keep the array coherent, while fully vented drivers give the Septet its open back character.

Sound Character

The tuning balances an impactful sub-bass shelf with natural, uncolored mids and crisp, extended treble that stays free of harshness. The vented design opens up the soundstage noticeably for an IEM, lending an acoustic, out of the head presentation.

Build and Comfort

The faceplates use an open lattice grille over compact shells with 0.78mm 2-pin connectors. The stock cable is 5N OCC copper with swappable 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs. At 15 ohms and 95dB sensitivity, the Septet appreciates a bit more power than average, so a capable dongle or portable player is a good match.
