Fiio R7 Desktop Streaming Music Player

The Fiio R7 condenses an entire desktop rig into one upright chassis: network streamer, DAC, headphone amplifier, preamp, USB DAC, and Bluetooth receiver, all controlled from a 5 inch portrait touchscreen running open Android 10 with Google Play. Install Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, or Roon and it streams natively; feed it from coaxial, optical, USB, or Bluetooth and it becomes the hub of your desk.

Type and Technology

An ESS ES9068AS DAC handles conversion up to 384kHz/32 bit and native DSD256 with MQA 8x decoding, while two THX AAA 788+ modules provide fully balanced amplification with five gain levels. Eight work modes cover Android, Pure Music, USB DAC, Bluetooth receive, AirPlay, coaxial, optical, and Roon Ready operation. Power comes from an internal filtered AC supply or an external 12V DC input, selectable by a rear switch.

The R7 is neutral, clean, and transparent, with the THX stage delivering big power from a near silent background. A touch of warmth and weight in the bass and lower mids keeps it from sounding sterile, and its uncolored balance means your headphones set the character.

Build and Features

Headphone outputs include 6.35mm single ended, 4.4mm balanced, and a 4 pin XLR, delivering up to 3650mW per channel balanced at 32 ohms in Ultra High Gain. Line level duties are covered by RCA and XLR3 balanced outputs with a dedicated preamp mode, selected by the output knob. Connectivity spans coaxial and optical in and out, Ethernet, dual band WiFi, USB C 3.0, a USB A port for drives, and microSD up to 2TB. The RGB ring around the volume knob signals sample rate at a glance, and interchangeable flat and angled bases let you set the viewing angle. It weighs about 1.28kg and comes in black or white.
