Fiio JH5 Hybrid In-Ear Monitors

The FiiO JH5 squeezes a five driver hybrid array into a 3D printed resin shell at a price that would have been unthinkable a few years ago. A 10mm carbon based dynamic driver handles the lows while four custom balanced armatures, including two dedicated ultra high frequency units, take care of everything above.

Type and Technology

The 10mm dynamic driver uses a carbon based diaphragm driven by an N52 magnet in a dual cavity internal magnetic circuit. Carbon's stiffness lets the driver start and stop quickly with minimal breakup, keeping distortion low. Two custom balanced armatures cover the mids and highs, while two additional custom UHF armatures extend the top octave for extra air and sparkle out to 40kHz.

Sound Character

Energetic but composed: taut, fast bass with excellent transient snap, clear forward vocals and an extended, airy treble that avoids harshness. At just 13 ohms and a huge 111dB/mW sensitivity, the JH5 sings from even the weakest phone dongle.

Build and Comfort

Shells are printed from medical grade resin using high precision DLP 3D printing for consistent acoustics and a smooth, skin friendly fit. The liquid die cast zinc alloy faceplates are mirror electroplated and hand polished for a look well above the price. The included cable is high purity silver plated copper, 392 wires in four strands, with 0.78mm 2-pin connectors and a 3.5mm plug.
