Dan Clark Audio AEON Core

The Dan Clark Audio AEON Core is the direct successor to the AEON 2 and the new entry tier of DCA's modern closed-back planar lineup: a high-efficiency planar magnetic headphone tuned to a revised Harman over-ear target developed in collaboration with Dr. Sean Olive, and the most easily driven Dan Clark headphone to date. Designed and assembled in San Diego, California.

Type and Technology

Closed-back planar magnetic headphone. All-new high-efficiency planar driver stack engineered around three priorities: efficiency, tonal consistency, and unit-to-unit reliability. 17-ohm impedance with 97 dB/mW sensitivity makes the AEON Core compatible with portable DAC/AMPs, USB-C dongles, and digital audio players that previous AEON models required more amplifier headroom to drive. DCA recommends a source capable of at least 125 mW into 16 ohms. Distortion remains below 0.1% at 80 dB reference white noise. Ships with a 2 m DUMMER cable in the buyer-selected termination (1/4-inch with 3.5mm adapter, 4-pin XLR balanced, or 4.4mm balanced). Cup-side termination is DCA's standard locking dual-entry connector used across the modern Aeon, Stealth, Expanse, and Corina line.

Sound Character

The first DCA headphone tuned to a revised Harman over-ear target that more accurately translates Harman's original research to modern GRAS measurement systems. The result is a slightly leaner upper bass, a gently lifted lower midrange, and a softer upper midrange, vocals sit forward without turning hard, acoustic instruments retain body and weight, and bass stays taut and present without overstating itself. The natural, controlled, easy-to-trust closed-back planar sound the AEON line has always been known for, refined further.

Build and Comfort

New aluminum and wood aesthetic over the closed-back planar shell. Titanium headband with DCA's self-adjusting suspension strap to distribute weight naturally across the head. Signature AEON earpads carried over from the line. Total weight is 328 grams, light enough for long-session, low-fatigue comfort that has been an AEON hallmark since the original AEON Flow.
