QULOOS MUB5 R2R Portable DAC/AMP

The Quloos MUB5 is a high-end portable R2R DAC and headphone amplifier built around a precision 19+5 segmented resistor ladder architecture using 178 resistors matched to 0.01% tolerance, an unusually ambitious engineering approach for a portable device, delivering the natural, musical character of discrete R2R conversion in a form factor designed for desktop and on-the-go use. Portable R2R DAC and headphone amplifier. Proprietary 19+5 segmented R2R DAC architecture with 178 precision-matched 0.01% tolerance resistors forming the complete ladder network. Two digital filter modes: custom Oversampling (OS) for an accurate, wide, detailed response and Non-Oversampling (NOS/M1) for a more laid-back, uncolored character that reproduces audio exactly as recorded without digital filter artifacts. Fully discrete headphone amplification stage using FZT power transistors with OPA627 chips in the buffer section. NDCS shielded power supply with 20 independent power circuits, LTC6655 voltage reference, and QA661 low-jitter crystal oscillators for exceptional power cleanliness. Up to 1.5W output on battery; up to 2.5W per channel on 12V DC input. Inputs: USB, coaxial, optical, and Bluetooth. Outputs: 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone, plus line output. Functions as both headphone amplifier and adjustable preamplifier. Approximately 7 to 8 hours battery life. QC fast charging compatible. Leather case, USB-C to USB-C cable, USB-A to USB-C cable, and screen protectors included.

Sound Character

In OS mode, the MUB5 delivers the controlled, extended, and detailed character of a well-implemented R2R design. In NOS mode, the digital filter is entirely removed, and the music is reproduced with a natural relaxed quality and organic tonal character that many R2R enthusiasts consider the most truthful listening experience available. The discrete FZT-based amplifier stage provides sufficient output for demanding planars, up to 2.5W per channel at 12V input, while remaining completely hiss-free with sensitive IEMs at battery power.
