The MASS-Kobo Model 485 is the evolutionary successor to the 394 series, a fully balanced desktop headphone amplifier that builds on over 200 units of the acclaimed 394 lineage, updating discontinued components with current-generation equivalents and adding a 4.4mm Pentaconn output to meet modern connectivity expectations.

Type and Technology

Fully balanced desktop headphone amplifier, solid-state. Balanced XLR inputs with +4dBm/-10dBm reference level selection and unbalanced RCA inputs converted to balanced at the input stage. 4-gang volume control using a custom Tokyo Koon Denpa conductive plastic resistor fader from high-end professional mixers. Output gain switch (Lo/Hi) to accommodate normal efficiency headphones and demanding planars alike. 4.4mm Pentaconn, XLR4, and dual XLR3 balanced outputs plus unbalanced 6.35mm. Worldwide power supply. Made to order in Japan.

The 485 preserves the fundamental sonic architecture that made the 394 series beloved, a presentation with exceptional depth, tangibility, and stability across the full frequency range.
