Kiwi Ears Halcyon

The Kiwi Ears Halcyon is one of the first in-ear monitors in the world to combine a MEMS solid state driver with dynamic and balanced armature drivers. The result is a five driver tribrid that aims squarely at studio grade neutrality, with an ultra fast top end that conventional tweeters struggle to match.

Type and Technology

Each side pairs a 10mm composite diaphragm dynamic driver for sub-bass with two custom DEK series balanced armatures for the midrange and a WBFK series armature tweeter. Above them sits a silicon MEMS driver, a chip based solid state transducer with no conventional voice coil, which handles the ultra treble with near zero phase distortion and extension out to 42kHz.

Sound Character

Kiwi Ears tunes the Halcyon like a studio monitor. A balanced 8dB sub-bass shelf cut cleanly at 200Hz keeps the midrange free of bloat, while a 3kHz pinna compensation peak gives voices natural presence. The MEMS tweeter adds air and precise imaging without sharpness, so long sessions stay comfortable.

Build and Comfort

The shells are CNC machined from aerospace grade aluminum and weigh just 5.99g each, with a slim 6.2mm nozzle for a deep, secure fit. The 4N single crystal copper cable uses 0.78mm 2-pin connectors and an interchangeable plug system with both 3.5mm and 4.4mm terminations in the box.
