HiBy R4 Digital Audio Player

The R4 is HiBy's answer to the question of how much DAP you can get for under $300. Four separate DAC chips, a big 4.7 inch display, and a full open Android 12 build add up to the only quad DAC player in its price range, wrapped in a design that leans hard into a cyberpunk, mecha aesthetic instead of pretending to be a flagship in miniature.

Type and Technology

• Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SOC running open Android 12 with full Google Play access
• Four separate ESS ES9018C2M DAC chips, with dedicated, separately tuned conversion pathways for PCM and DSD
• Class A amplification for zero crossover distortion
• 4.7 inch Sharp touchscreen display
• 32GB internal storage plus microSD expansion
• Native PCM up to 32bit/768kHz, DSD256, and MQA unfolding
• Bluetooth 5.2

Sound Character

Reviewers consistently frame the R4 as punching well above its price, with the quad DAC array giving it a smoother, more composed presentation than most sub $300 Android players. It won't chase the RS series' R2R timbre, but for the money it's regularly called the best value Android DAP HiBy sells.

Build and Comfort

• Aluminum alloy body with a cyberpunk inspired, geometric industrial design
• 129.6 x 68.3 x 18.5mm, 231g
• Available in Black, Silver, Green, and Orange, all with the identical configuration

Best For

• Listeners who want the full Android streaming experience (Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz) in a dedicated player
• Anyone looking for the most DAC hardware per dollar in an entry level DAP
• A first step up from phone plus dongle without flagship pricing
