Fiio Warmer R2R Desktop Tube DAC
The Fiio Warmer R2R is exactly what its name promises: a pure desktop DAC that pairs a discrete 24-bit R2R resistor ladder with a four tube JJ E88CC buffer stage for deliberately warm, analog flavored conversion. Twin mechanical VU meters and a toroidal linear power supply complete one of the most characterful source components Fiio has ever built. It offers line outputs only, with no headphone amplifier and no volume control.
Type and Technology
Conversion is handled by a fully differential R2R array of 192 precision thin film resistors, followed by four new production JJ Electronic E88CC vacuum tubes running as a buffer stage on generous 28V rails. Selectable NOS and OS modes switch between native rate decoding and global upsampling to 384kHz, and the USB input accepts PCM to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256, with optical and coaxial inputs for other sources.
Sound Character
Warm, bloomy, and relaxed, with a wide stage and an organic midrange, especially in NOS mode. This is a DAC tuned for mood and musicality rather than measurement records, and it makes bright or lean systems instantly more inviting.
Build and Features
Two large amber lit mechanical VU meters dominate the front panel, with simple physical controls for input selection, NOS or OS mode, and USB class. Fixed level RCA at 1.8Vrms and XLR3 balanced at 3.3Vrms outputs can run simultaneously into your amplifier or active monitors. Best For
Speaker and amplifier systems that want a dose of tube warmth and R2R texture from a fixed output source component. It is not for direct headphone listening, since there is no headphone output or volume control.
