The Fiio SP3 is a pure analog active desktop speaker that puts its budget into acoustics and build rather than features. Liquid die-cast aluminum cabinets, a carbon fiber woofer and simple plug and play analog inputs make it a clean, honest upgrade over typical PC speakers. Type and Technology

Each cabinet pairs a 3.5 inch carbon fiber cone woofer with a 1 inch silk dome tweeter using a copper plated aluminum voice coil, actively bi-amped at 30W for the woofer and 10W for the tweeter per side, 80W total. Inputs are analog only: RCA line in and a 3.5mm AUX input, selected with a color coded status light.

Sound Character

The SP3 has a mature, smooth and slightly warm signature with surprisingly punchy, controlled bass for a 3.5 inch driver, helped by the double diffused S shaped port tube. Response runs 65Hz to 20kHz within 2dB, with claimed treble extension to 35kHz. Below 65Hz output rolls off, so bass heads may eventually want a larger system.

Build and Features

The dense liquid die-cast aluminum alloy enclosures weigh 1.84kg and 1.66kg and resist vibration far better than plastic boxes. Two sets of silicone stands are included, one flat and one with a 7 degree upward tilt that aims the drivers at your ears on a desk. Volume and bass dials sit on the rear of the primary speaker.
