The Fiio M33 R2R is FiiO's first portable player built around a true R2R ladder DAC, bringing a conversion approach usually reserved for boutique desktop gear to a pocketable Android device. Instead of an off the shelf chip, FiiO assembled a fully differential 24 bit ladder from 192 precision thin film resistors, then wrapped it in a modern Snapdragon 680 platform with a 5.5 inch 1080p display.

Launched in 2026 as the follow up to the M23, the M33 R2R is aimed at listeners who find typical delta sigma players technically impressive but tonally flat, and who want a more organic presentation without giving up streaming apps or balanced power.

Type and Technology

The heart of the M33 R2R is a four channel, fully differential 24 bit R2R resistor array using 0.1 percent tolerance thin film resistors selected for low temperature drift. A high capacity FPGA runs FiiO's DAPS signal purification with dual femtosecond crystal oscillators, borrowed from the flagship M27, and an XMOS XU316 handles USB duties up to 768kHz/32 bit and native DSD512. You can run the ladder in oversampling (OS) mode for tighter conventional precision or non oversampling (NOS) mode for the classic relaxed R2R presentation. The analog stage pairs two OPA1637 fully differential op amps with four parallel INA1620 buffers and NJW1195A volume control.

Sound Character

The M33 R2R leans warm, organic, and analog sounding, with denser mids and more natural vocal timbre than typical delta sigma rivals, yet it retains more micro detail than most R2R designs near this price. NOS mode emphasizes the easygoing analog character, OS mode firms up timing and edge definition, and the selectable Natural and Warmer profiles let you fine tune how much richness you want.

Build and Features

The aluminum chassis weighs about 258g and comes in Retro Gold, Dark Blue, or Black, with a leather case pre installed. A 4400mAh battery delivers roughly 15.5 hours single ended or 13.5 hours balanced, and dual USB C ports enable FiiO's battery bypass desktop mode. With a fast charger attached, Super High Gain unlocks up to 1100mW per channel balanced at 32 ohms. The 3.5mm and 4.4mm jacks double as line outputs, a 3.5mm coaxial output feeds external DACs, and Bluetooth 5.0 transmits LDAC and LHDC. A 10 band parametric EQ with AUTO EQ, retro cassette and VU meter interface themes, five operating modes, and microSD expansion up to 2TB round out the package.

Best For

Listeners who want R2R density and ease in a portable rig, especially with resolving IEMs that can sound lean on conventional sources. If you are comparing options, browse our other digital audio players or the full Fiio collection.
