Fiio JM21

The Fiio JM21 makes a dedicated music player as easy to carry as a phone: 13mm thin, about 156g, and running full Android 13 on a snappy Snapdragon 680. Dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs and a fully balanced amp stage give it genuine audiophile output from a body that disappears into a pocket.

Type and Technology

Two CS43198 DACs feed a fully balanced amplifier built on SGM8262 op amps, powered by a three stage segmented supply with four dedicated LDO regulators per op amp. FiiO's DAPS system removes Android's global sample rate conversion, so Apple Music, Tidal, Qobuz, and local files all play bit perfect. The JM21 also works as an asynchronous USB DAC up to 384kHz/32 bit with native DSD256, as a Bluetooth receiver, and as a digital transport through its shared 3.5mm coaxial output or USB Audio out up to 768kHz/32 bit and DSD512.

Sound Character

The JM21 is neutral with a slightly warm, relaxed tilt: smooth and effortless rather than analytical. Bass is controlled and textured, mids sound natural and lifelike, and treble extends well without harshness, all set against a background quieter than its price suggests.

Build and Features

A 4.7 inch 750 x 1334 display keeps the chassis at about 120.7 x 68 x 13mm, offered in Sky Blue or Black with a clear case included. The 3100mAh battery delivers up to 16 hours single ended or 12.5 hours balanced thanks to the efficient platform. Outputs cover 3.5mm single ended and 4.4mm balanced with up to 700mW per channel available, line out is switchable on both jacks, two way Bluetooth supports LDAC in each direction, and microSD cards up to 2TB expand the 64GB of internal storage.
