Fiio FW3 True Wireless Earbuds

The Fiio FW3 brings FiiO's audiophile true wireless formula down to a friendlier price. Like its bigger sibling the FW5, every earbud gets its own DAC and amplifier stage, and the money goes into sound rather than gimmicks. Type and Technology

The FW3 is a true wireless stereo earphone built around a 10mm carbon based diaphragm dynamic driver per side, each fed by an independent AKM AK4332 DAC with its own amp stage. The Qualcomm QCC5141 chip delivers Bluetooth 5.2 with Snapdragon Sound certification and supports LDAC, LHDC, aptX Adaptive, aptX, AAC and SBC at up to 24 bit 96kHz.

Sound Character

The tuning is mildly V shaped, warm and fun: punchy, well controlled mid bass, smooth full bodied mids and moderately bright treble. The semi open faceplate design gives the FW3 an unusually wide, open soundstage for its class. There is no active noise cancelling; sound quality is the whole pitch.

Build and Comfort

Each earbud weighs about 6g and uses two physical buttons per side for reliable control. The shells are IPX4 rated, dual microphones per earbud with cVc noise cancellation handle calls, and the FiiO Control app provides a 10 band parametric EQ, codec selection and firmware updates. The 380mAh USB-C case delivers about 7 hours per charge and roughly 21 hours total.
