The FiiO FT7 is the flagship of FiiO's headphone line: a 106mm open-back planar magnetic driver whose diaphragm is coated with real 24K gold and pure silver, housed in carbon fiber, magnesium aluminum alloy, and zebrawood. It is a statement piece that competes with headphones costing far more.

Type and Technology

After two years of development, FiiO produced a 1 micron ultra-thin PET diaphragm, selectively coated with 24K gold and pure silver in a patented multi-layer pattern that leverages the sonic character of both metals. A dual-sided push-pull magnetic circuit uses 18 high-performance N52 neodymium magnets, nine per side, with magnetic flux up to 1.5T, and FiiO's patented uniform magnetic field design keeps the drive force consistent across the diaphragm. At 25 ohms and 94dB/mW, it works from good portable gear and truly opens up on a desktop amplifier.

Sound Character

The gold and silver coating pays off in a sound that is both charming and precise: rich, textured mids, deep and fast bass, and ultra-high frequencies rendered with lightning transient speed and exceptional dynamic range. The open zebrawood grilles give it a grand, spacious stage with pinpoint imaging.

Build and Comfort

A lightweight, high-strength carbon fiber headband and body keep the FT7 to about 427g, remarkable for a driver this large. Lambskin leather covers the headband, and two full sets of ear pads, lambskin and suede, are included for tuning comfort and tone. The bespoke cable uses over-6N OCC monocrystalline copper treated with a week-long liquid nitrogen cryogenic process and a low-dielectric PFA insulator for ultra-clean signal transfer.
