The Fiio DM15 R2R is the luxury take on the modern portable CD player: a true resistor ladder DAC, serious balanced power and an all aluminum shell that treats your disc collection like the archive it is. Where most portables chase convenience, the DM15 R2R chases sound.

Type and Technology

At its heart is a proprietary four channel, fully differential 24 bit R2R DAC built from 192 precision thin film resistors, hand selected for 0.1 percent accuracy and low temperature drift. The balanced 4.4mm output delivers up to 1150mW, with a 3.5mm single ended jack alongside. Bluetooth 5.4 transmission with LDAC and aptX Lossless streams discs wirelessly, a USB DAC mode turns it into a desktop decoder for your computer, and optical plus coaxial SPDIF outputs and a preamp output make it a proper transport. Parametric EQ lets you shape the sound to taste.

Sound Character

R2R conversion gives the DM15 a smooth, dense, analog flavored presentation: rich mids, weighty low end and treble that stays natural rather than etched. It is a deliberate contrast to delta sigma rivals, closer in spirit to classic high end players than to a typical portable.

Build and Features

The all aluminum alloy chassis measures just 25.5mm thick and weighs 471.5g. A 4700mAh battery runs about 7 hours of CD playback or up to 11 hours in USB DAC mode, and an included remote handles playback from the couch in desktop use.
