Fiio CP13 Portable Cassette Player

The Fiio CP13 revives the personal cassette player with modern engineering and real hi-fi intent. An all aluminum body, a copper flywheel transport and a pure analog signal path make it the best built of the new wave of tape players, whether you are digging out old mixtapes or buying new releases on cassette. Type and Technology

The CP13 is a playback only stereo cassette player that runs its custom DC motor on a high 4.2V supply with a speed stabilization circuit, paired with an oversized pure copper flywheel for steady tape speed. A custom magnetic head feeds a JRC5532 op amp stage through a fully analog path, with a proper analog potentiometer volume knob. It plays all Type I through Type IV tapes.

Sound Character

Warm, smooth and unmistakably analog, with the gentle tape hiss that is part of the format's charm. The 250mV headphone output has enough drive for IEMs and easy portable headphones, and speed stability is notably better than typical modern budget decks.

Build and Features

The dual color aluminum alloy chassis uses hard oxidized mechanical transport buttons that click like the classics. A 1800mAh battery runs for more than 13 hours per charge over USB-C, and the player works while charging. At about 310g it slips into a jacket pocket.
