The FiiO BTR17 is the flagship of FiiO's portable Bluetooth DAC and amplifier range. It takes the wired IEMs and headphones you already love and gives them genuinely high resolution wireless freedom, while doubling as a powerful USB DAC for phones, tablets and computers. A dedicated desktop mode unlocks 650mW of balanced output, so this pocket sized device can stand in for a desktop rig when you need it to.
Type and Technology
The BTR17 is a portable Bluetooth DAC and headphone amplifier built around dual ES9069Q DAC chips and a fully balanced THX AAA 78+ amplifier stage. Qualcomm's flagship QCC5181 chipset delivers Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, LDAC, AAC and SBC. Connected over USB through its XMOS XU316 controller, it decodes PCM up to 768kHz/32bit and native DSD512.
Sound Character
Expect a clean, spacious and highly resolving presentation in classic ESS fashion, with the THX AAA amplifiers keeping the noise floor vanishingly low for sensitive IEMs. In desktop mode the extra current gives music firmer bass grip and effortless dynamics, letting the BTR17 drive full size headphones with authority rather than just getting them loud.
Build and Features
A 1.3 inch IPS color display shows codec, volume and battery at a glance, flanked by physical buttons for control without reaching for your phone. You get both 3.5mm single ended and 4.4mm balanced outputs, a 1200mAh battery good for around 8 hours over LDAC, and a 10 band parametric EQ through the FiiO Control app. At 73.4g it clips onto a pocket or bag without a second thought.
