The ES Lab ES-2a is a premium open-back electrostatic headphone designed and assembled in Hong Kong by a team known for electrostatic headphone restoration. It pairs a large electrostatic driver with a rigid alloy housing to deliver a detailed, transparent presentation for discerning listeners.

Type and Technology

Open-back electrostatic transducer using a 90mm ultra-thin Mylar diaphragm driven by a pair of thin OFC electrodes, for very fast transient response. It uses STAX Pro bias (DC 580 V) and terminates in a five-pin STAX Pro-type plug, so it requires a compatible electrostatic energizer or amplifier and cannot be driven from a conventional headphone output.

Sound Character

A detailed, transparent, and highly resolving sound with the speed and low distortion characteristic of electrostatics. Optional tuning filters allow the midrange and transient profile to be tailored to taste.

Build and Comfort

Rigid yet lightweight aluminum-magnesium alloy housing with detachable and swappable earpads. The headphone weighs 450 g without cable and ships with a 2.3 m cable. As an open-back design, it is intended for quiet listening environments rather than noisy spaces.
