The Aune XC1 is a high-performance external audio clock that brings precise 10MHz timing to a digital audio chain. Built around an OCXO clock source and designed by the team behind Aune's acclaimed S1C, it delivers trusted master-clock performance at an approachable price, with four isolated outputs that can synchronise multiple devices at once. It is a black and silver desktop unit sized to sit neatly alongside a DAC or all-in-one player.

Type and Technology

The XC1 is an external reference clock that uses an OCXO (oven-controlled crystal oscillator) source. It provides two 10MHz sine wave outputs and two 10MHz square wave outputs, four isolated outputs in total, which can all operate simultaneously to feed several components in the chain. The motherboard uses carefully chosen components, including Panasonic or Sanyo audio capacitors and Panasonic ECPU capacitors on the clock circuit, with a micro-volt noise-chip cascade in the power supply for low-noise operation. It runs on under 10W from an included 9V 2A DC supply.

What an Audio Clock Does

Digital audio relies on a stable timing reference to convert data into sound. When that reference drifts, the result is jitter, tiny timing errors that can blur detail and imaging. An external clock like the XC1 supplies a far more precise and stable 10MHz signal than the internal clock in many DACs and players, so components that accept an external clock input can lock to it and reduce jitter. A clock has no sound of its own; instead it tightens the timing of the devices it feeds, which many listeners hear as improved clarity, focus, and soundstage precision. The XC1 connects to DACs, all-in-one desktop players, and other HiFi products that have a 10MHz clock input.
