Aune X8 XVIII BT
The Aune X8 XVIII BT is the Bluetooth-equipped version of Aune's 18th-anniversary desktop DAC, adding high-resolution wireless streaming to an already accomplished digital-to-analog converter. Built around Aune's self-developed FPGA core architecture, it decodes up to 32bit/768kHz PCM and native DSD512 from a computer or transport, while the onboard Bluetooth receiver lets a phone or tablet feed it directly. For the listener who wants reference clarity on the desk and the convenience of wireless when it matters, the X8 XVIII BT covers both.
Type and Technology
At its core is an ESS ES9038Q2M DAC chip paired with Aune's proprietary FPGA processing, the combination that made the X8 family so well regarded. Seven selectable digital filters and an interchangeable op-amp stage allow the presentation to be tuned to taste. Wired inputs include USB, coaxial, and optical, and the high-resolution Bluetooth input supports the LDAC, aptX HD, and AAC codecs, the last of which suits Apple devices. Outputs comprise RCA line-out, RCA pre-out, and a preamplified balanced 6.35mm TRS output for flexible system building.
Sound Character
The X8 XVIII BT is natural and lively rather than dry. The FPGA architecture is known for a pure, low-noise backdrop that lets fine detail and spatial cues emerge on their own terms. Expect precise, dynamic, and detailed reproduction with excellent instrument separation and a tonal balance that flatters both analytical and relaxed listening, with the added freedom to shape the sound through filter and op-amp choices. Over Bluetooth, LDAC and aptX HD preserve far more detail than standard wireless.
Build and Finish
Housed in a resistant aluminum alloy chassis with characteristically profiled sides and top panel, the X8 XVIII BT feels every bit the anniversary edition. It is available in Black and Silver, so it sits naturally alongside the rest of a desktop stack. The compact footprint is designed to share space with an amplifier or monitors without dominating the desk.
Best For
This is an ideal choice for the desktop listener who wants a transparent, upgrade-friendly DAC that can also stream wirelessly from a phone. Pair it with a dedicated amplifier and a set of full-size cans from our headphones for a reference-grade chain, then switch to Bluetooth when you simply want to press play.
