The Aune X1s GT is the eighth generation of Aune's classic X1 series, a desktop DAC and headphone amplifier that has become a genuine benchmark at its price. It combines high-resolution decoding up to 32bit/768kHz PCM and native DSD512 with a fully discrete amplifier and Aune's own clock technology, all wrapped in the signature arc-shaped chassis. For the listener building a serious desktop rig who wants both a clean source and real driving power in one box, the X1s GT is a compelling foundation.

Type and Technology

Decoding is handled by an ESS ES9038Q2M chip governed by Aune's PLL (Phase Locked Loop) clock algorithm, which feeds low-jitter clock signals to the XMOS receiver and DAC simultaneously so the whole unit runs in synchronized mode without asynchronous sample-rate conversion. A 10MHz external clock input on BNC lets you connect a dedicated reference such as the Aune XC1 for further refinement. Digital inputs cover USB (32bit/768kHz, DSD512), coaxial (24bit/384kHz, DoP128), and optical (24bit/192kHz, DoP64). The amplifier is an upgraded version of Aune's classic B1 fully discrete circuit, and four Aune-developed filter and drive modes replace the stock chip filters. An ALPS potentiometer manages volume.

Sound Character

The X1s GT is tuned to be musical and smooth while staying resolving. The PLL clock work and fully discrete output stage give it a clean, low-noise backdrop with natural tone and confident dynamics. The balanced 4.4mm output delivers up to 1200mW into 32 ohms, enough to drive demanding full-size headphones with authority, while the single-ended 6.35mm output serves easier loads. Line output measures 2.0Vrms with 120dB SNR and DNR and THD+N of 0.00013 percent, so the source signal feeding the rest of your system is exceptionally clean.

Build and Finish

The X1s GT is built into a zero-tolerance aluminum enclosure in the series' distinctive arc shape, finished in Black with a red ring-light glowing behind the volume wheel that gives it a bold, GT-inspired look. Communication-level SR PCB and carefully chosen audiophile components sit inside. The compact desktop footprint keeps it tidy alongside a monitor or speakers.

Best For

This is an excellent all-in-one for the desktop listener who wants one tidy box to both decode and drive a wide range of headphones, from sensitive in-ears to power-hungry planars. It pairs especially well with sensitive in-ear monitors thanks to its low noise floor and its clean balanced and single-ended outputs.
