Aune NC1 EVO

The Aune NC1 EVO combines a high-precision OCXO audio clock with an integrated linear power supply in a single unit, so it can improve the timing of a digital source and cleanly power it at the same time. Developed with a specialist in aerospace-grade crystal components, it delivers a stable 10MHz reference alongside dual DC outputs. It is a substantial black or silver desktop component built for low-noise operation.

Type and Technology

The NC1 EVO is an external OCXO (oven-controlled crystal oscillator) clock with a built-in linear power supply. It outputs a 10MHz clock signal (greater than 7dBm into 50 ohms) with two sine wave outputs, and its frequency accuracy is within 0.02ppm after a warm-up of about five minutes. The OCXO holds core temperature fluctuation within roughly plus or minus 0.01 degrees Celsius, and jitter is kept below 100 femtoseconds. Alongside the clock, a specially designed low-noise audio transformer and independently regulated supply provide two DC outputs (9V 2.5A and 12V 2A) to power connected devices. The clock and power outputs are not limited to Aune products and can serve equipment from other brands.

What an Audio Clock Does

Digital audio needs a precise, stable timing reference to turn data back into sound. Timing errors, called jitter, can blur fine detail and soften imaging. An external clock such as the NC1 EVO supplies a much more accurate 10MHz reference than the clock built into many DACs and players; a component with a 10MHz clock input locks to it so its conversion is timed more precisely. The clock has no sound of its own. It improves the timing of the devices it feeds, and its clean linear power outputs further reduce noise, changes many listeners hear as greater clarity and a more precise soundstage.
