Aune N7 DAC Edition

The Aune N7 DAC Edition takes the compact pure Class-A N7 amplifier and adds a built-in USB DAC, creating an all-in-one digital-to-analogue converter, headphone amplifier, and preamplifier. It keeps the Twin JFET input, four-channel R2R volume control, and dual-level Class-A bias of the N7, then pairs them with dual Cirrus Logic DAC chips and plug-and-play USB-C connectivity.

Type and Technology

The N7 DAC Edition is a fully discrete Class-A headphone amplifier and USB DAC that can also act as a preamplifier. Two Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips handle digital conversion, supporting PCM up to 384kHz and DSD256 over a USB-C input that works with Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. The analogue stage mirrors the N7: a Twin JFET input, a specially designed dual-level Class-A bias for true Class-A operation, and a fully balanced four-channel R2R electronic volume control from JRC with dedicated op-amps. Two gain settings range from low gain for sensitive IEMs to high gain with up to 6.5W for demanding over-ear headphones. Connectivity includes USB-C, two headphone outputs (6.35mm single-ended and 4.4mm Pentaconn), two line inputs, and two preamp outputs.

Sound Character

Like the pure N7, the DAC Edition runs in Class-A for a silky, full-bodied sound with natural warmth and organic tonality. The Twin JFET input adds a smooth, tube-like quality, while the R2R volume control keeps imaging precise and the soundstage wide. Feeding the amplifier directly from its own DAC gives a coherent, high-resolution presentation from a single box.

Build and Finish

The N7 DAC Edition uses a full aluminium chassis with a 3D thermal architecture for even cooling and stable Class-A performance. A 3-inch display and multifunction knob control bias, gain, and headphone or preamp modes, with two colours showing current and temperature in real time. A remote control is included.
