Aune N5 EVO

The Aune N5 EVO is a compact streaming music player that opens Aune's new N-Series, combining a network streamer, a USB player, and a Bluetooth receiver in one Nordic-inspired chassis. It is built around pure hardware decoding, so the entire system is dedicated to reproducing music rather than juggling extra features, delivering true high-resolution audio from streaming services, USB drives, and wireless sources.

Type and Technology

The N5 EVO is a network streaming music player with USB playback and Bluetooth receiving. It pairs an ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M DAC with an NXP Cortex-M7 processor, an Intel FPGA, and a Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth module. A second-generation dual PLL (phase-locked loop) design with FIFO reduces jitter to a minimum, decoding every sample from 44.1kHz up to DSD512 with femtosecond-level precision. It supports native USB playback of DSD512 and PCM up to 768k directly from a USB drive, and offers true 192kHz network audio streaming from services and NAS including AirPlay 2, Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz. Bluetooth supports aptX HD and LDAC at up to 990 kbps. An external clock input allows further refinement of timing accuracy.

Sound Character

The N5 EVO is designed for reference-level clarity, with the ES9039Q2M DAC and Intel FPGA reproducing every nuance in fine detail. Compared with the earlier X5s 8th Anniversary Edition, the noise floor is reduced by nearly half and THD+N is improved substantially, resulting in a clean, precise, and musical presentation.

Build and Finish

The N-Series chassis follows Nordic design principles, balancing clean lines and functionality in solid aluminium. It provides a full set of digital and analog outputs, including balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA, I2S, coaxial, and optical, plus a BNC input for an external 10 MHz clock generator. Operation runs through the Hi-Musician interface and the Aune app. The N5 EVO is finished in Black.
