It pairs a 50 mm Multi-Layer Distributed (MLD) driver with Aune's large-tilt-angle acoustic structure to deliver a wide, natural soundstage and a balanced, reference-grade tonality. A rebuilt all-metal headband addresses the durability of the previous generation while keeping the headphone light and comfortable for long listening sessions.

Type and Technology

The AR5000 MK2 is an over-ear, open-back headphone built around a 50 mm dynamic driver with an MLD (Multi-Layer Distributed) diaphragm. The layered diaphragm balances rigidity and damping to suppress break-up common to large-diameter drivers, lowering distortion across the range. For the MK2, Aune further optimized the diaphragm material and surface treatment, and reworked the internal airflow path and magnetic circuit to improve linearity and effective excursion. The signature large-tilt-angle driver panel, paired with angled earpads, creates the acoustic geometry behind the headphone's spacious presentation.

Sound Character

The tuning is neutral-to-warm, full-bodied, and non-fatiguing. Compared with the first generation, the MK2 extends both sub-bass and ultra-high frequencies while smoothing the mid-to-high transition, giving deeper, more authoritative bass and clearer, airier treble. The open-back design and high-tilt driver layout produce a broad, immersive soundstage with natural imaging, making it well suited to orchestral, acoustic, and any material where space and separation matter, while remaining versatile across jazz, rock, and electronic genres.

Build and Comfort

The headband assembly has been upgraded to an all-metal construction for greater rigidity and long-term durability. The earpieces keep Aune's CNC-machined curves in a delicate champagne gold finish. Ergonomics carry over from the well-regarded original: an optimized headband curvature and a concentric-circle fitting system distribute pressure evenly, and the breathable, slow-rebound memory-foam earpads fully enclose the ear for fatigue-free extended listening. The headphone ships with a detachable Litz cable using high-purity oxygen-free copper conductors and an interchangeable-plug system supporting 3.5 mm single-ended, 6.35 mm single-ended, and 4.4 mm balanced connections.
