The Kuzma Stabi S is Kuzma's entry-level turntable built to a philosophy well above its price, a non-suspended brass and aluminum design that eliminates the resonant flat chassis plate entirely in favor of solid 50mm brass rods providing the only connections between platter, bearing, and tonearm support. Introduced in 1998 and continuously refined, it remains one of the most intelligently engineered turntables available at its price from any manufacturer. Made in Slovenia.

Type and Technology

Belt-drive turntable, unsuspended. The distinctive T-shaped chassis uses two solid brass rods of 50mm diameter as the structural elements, one primary rod supporting platter and bearing, a second providing lateral stability, clamped together at right angles. There is no flat plate to resonate or transmit vibrations. The motor is housed independently in its own brass tower for vibration isolation. A flat rubber belt drives the subplatter from the motor pulley. The bearing uses a highly polished fine-grain carbon steel shaft with a single-point contact, supported in a resin/textile sleeve with excellent damping and non-resonant properties. The solid aluminum platter (30mm thick since 2018) has a mat on top and a rubber damping insert underneath. An acrylic cover protects the platter and tonearm and reflects the turntable's original geometric shape. Accommodates various tonearms via pre-cut brass armboards with VTA adjustment on any mounted arm. Kuzma arms fit directly without an armboard. Speeds: 33 and 45 rpm. Made in Slovenia.

Design Philosophy

The Stabi S's engineering argument is straightforward: rigid mass, minimal resonance pathways, and motor isolation. By eliminating the resonant flat plate chassis that defines most turntables at this price level and replacing it with solid brass rods, Kuzma achieves a level of structural integrity and acoustic inertness that most comparably priced turntables cannot approach. The motor in its own brass tower further isolates mechanical noise from the signal path. The result is a turntable whose measured performance and subjective musicality consistently outperform its price position.

Build and Finish

Solid brass and aluminum construction throughout. Available in brass or black finish (RAL finishes by special order). Supplied with platter mat, dust cover/lid, 45 rpm adaptor, bearing oil, and Allen keys. Optional external power supply, second arm kit, 12" armboard kit, record clamp, and supporting platforms available separately. 13kg without optional accessories.

Best For

Vinyl listeners who want serious engineering rather than a feature-laden package at an accessible price, particularly those who want to pair a Kuzma tonearm with a Kuzma turntable on a modest budget, or those upgrading from mass-market designs who want a genuine performance step up.
