Enleum HPA-23RMH
The Enleum HPA-23RMH is a reference headphone amplifier designed for both desktop and portable use, a Red Dot 2022 award winner that packs dual voltage and current output stages, an advanced battery circuit, and the Ensence input module from the Amp-23R into a chassis four times smaller than its predecessor, the Bakoon HPA-21.
Type and Technology
Desktop and portable reference headphone amplifier, solid-state. Ensence input module, fully discrete, zero negative feedback, ultra-fast frequency response, inherited directly from the Amp-23R. Dual output stage: MOSFET voltage output with simplified JET2 Bias circuit, and bipolar transistor current output descended from the Bakoon HPA-21. Solid-state relay attenuator with ultra-precision resistor network. Two operating modes: R mode (full output, desktop or external battery via USB-C) and M mode (efficient, internal battery only). RCA and 3.5mm mini jack inputs. 6.35mm current output and 3.5mm voltage output headphone jacks.
Sound Character
The dual output configuration is the HPA-23RMH's defining characteristic, the current output provides a fundamentally different connection to the headphone driver compared to conventional voltage amplifiers, delivering a sense of directness and dynamic control that is immediately apparent on high-quality transducers. The voltage output offers a more conventional presentation, equally accomplished. The Ensence module ensures that both outputs maintain transparency at any gain or volume level.
Build and Finish
Precision-machined aluminum chassis at 116 x 164.5 x 22mm, genuinely portable despite the reference performance. Machined waveform heatsinks integrated into the sides of the chassis serve as both the thermal management system and the primary design statement. Red Dot Design Award 2022 winner. Internal batteries provide up to 5 hours in M mode; R mode operates continuously from external power.
Best For
Serious headphone listeners who want Enleum's reference amplifier performance in a form factor that works on a desktop or travels, and those curious about current-output amplification as an alternative to conventional voltage-mode headphone amplifiers.
