Perfect size and shape.
The 4.4mm connector must be compact enough to fit all electronics, while large enough to accomodate substantial headphone and interconnect cables. It has a streamlined 10.5mm barrel diameter that will fit all the new Sony gear and beyond, but a 7.0mm rear opening will fit the vast majority of cables. The interior expands ahead of the silver fiber ring for maximum space around the solder contacts.
Ideal installation conditions.
The solder contacts inside the plug are thoroughly insulated and properly spaced to allow effortless cable installation, without the risk of shorts or compromised insulation. In this way, tiny, stacked contacts that are easy to short are avoided. This design has been prototyped and tested over an extended period to ensure it goes the distance. The barrel offers ample room inside and is treated to ensure its interior is nonconductive, and the plug avoids the use of magnetically charged materials wherever possible.
The best metallurgy for each design.
A high-performance base metal with impressive strength is employed for this connector. The connector is rhodium-plated for maximum durability. Superior plating thickness and complete plating of all plug surfaces set this connector apart. Many “rhodium” 2.5/3.5/4.4 connectors widely available overseas have a razor-thin “flash coating” of rhodium which only lasts for a few insertions before flaking off – buyer beware. Eidolic rhodium is extremely tough, remaining unchanged across years of use.
Unique barrel aesthetics.
The Eidolic 4.4mm plug is incredibly light and compact due to the choice of materials, which also confer a near-indestructible exterior. The anodized aluminum shell is accented with a gorgeous recessed silver fiber ring, and the metal surfaces are textured with a proprietary process that yields a tough, matte finish that sparkles in the light. This connector features a unique combination of a “gunmetal” dark silver finish on the aluminum and a stealthy gray Eidolic logo screened and heat-cured onto the upper area of the barrel.
Adopting the ingenious adaptive threaded design from the Eidolic titanium barrel series, the gunmetal aluminum barrel’s top screws onto its bottom, securing the carbon fiber or other insert. A wide range of available inserts means that this connector can be anything you want it to be, and the length of the chosen insert(s) controls the length of the barrel, allowing a 10mm+ range of variation.
